Skills USA HCTC State Champions

The board recognized Cole Dobbs as a 2-time state champion in carpentry and Lucas Davis, Matthew Woody, Jonah Moss & Clay Laura in the TeamWorks division. SkillsUSA is the #1 national workforce development organization for students. It provides educational programs, local chapter resources, and competitions to support students in trade, technical, and skilled service occupations. These students will compete at the national level in early June.
 

SDOC Teacher Forum Scholarship Winners

The board recognized the 2025-2026 SDOC Teacher Forum scholarship recipients: Campbell Roberts from Seneca High, Lauren "Reese" Williams from Walhalla High and Brooklyn Iseli from West-Oak High. Congratulations to these outstanding students and aspiring educators!
 

Stock Market Game Winners

The board recognized Avery Phillips of West-Oak Middle School and Coby Wood of Walhalla for placing first in the InvestWrite Challenge in the middle school and high school divsions respectively. Cody also placed sixth nationally in the high school division.

The board also recognized West-Oak Middle School teacher Debra Wallace who received the prestigious Dr. Gary Stone Multiplier of the Year Award for excellence in financial literacy education, leadership, and and mentorship.

The Stock Market Game™ is a nationally recognized financial literacy program that gives students hands-on experience in investing, budgeting, and economic decision-making through a simulated stock market environment. InvestWrite is a national essay competition for 4th–12th grade students that serves as a critical-thinking companion to the Stock Market Game™. It challenges students to analyze real-world financial issues, connecting classroom learning to investing strategies.

Superintendent's Report

Mr. Smith shared highlights from around the district including:
  • Teacher Appreciation Week celebrated last week by our schools
  • Commented on how hard our teachers and leaders are working to help students finish strong
  • District hosted a wonderful banquet to honor our graduating seniors who attained a GPA of 4.75 or higher throughout their high school career
  • Highlighted many of our athletic teams still competing

  • Reviewed monthly financial report
  • Passed Policy Manual Section J (JIH - JRA) on first reading
  • Passed Policy Manual Section J (JA - JIE/JIF/JIG) on second reading, final approval
  • Passed an update to the 2026-2027 School Board meeting calendar
  • School Highlight was presented by Tamassee-Salem Elementary School
